1908 - Walter Lanier Barber was born 17th of February in  Columbus, Mississippi.

 

1934-1938 - He broadcast for the Reds.

 

1935 - Announcer for the first televised baseball game in history, a Reds vs. Dodgers double header.

 

1939-1953 - Switched to the Brooklyn Dodgers, where he became known as "The Voice of the Dodgers.

 

1954 - Barber became broadcaster for the New York Yankees.

 

1966 - He made the faux pas of informing listeners the true crowd size in the stadium: 413.

 

         - Barber retired from baseball broadcasting.

 

         - Wrote several books, including his autobiography.

 

1978 - He was awarded the Ford C. Frick Award.

 

1981 - Barber made weekly contributions to National Public Radio's Morning Edition program.

 

1984 - Awarded as Polk Award Career Award.

 

1992 - He died 22nd of October in Tallahassee, Florida.

 

1995 - Barber was awarded as Radio Hall of Fame.
