1939 - Atwood was born in Ottawa, Ontario on the 18th of November.
1955 - She started writing novels and poems at the age of sixteen.
1957 - She studied at Victoria University a federated school of the University of Toronto.
1961 - Graduated with a degree in English with honors and finished minors in philosophy and French. She won the E.J. Pratt Medal for her privately-printed book of poems, Double Persephone.
1962 - Earned his master's degree from Radcliffe University and pursued a doctorate degree at Harvard.
1965 - She worked as a teacher at the University of British Columbia.
1967-1968 - She worked as a teacher at the Sir George Williams University in Montreal, Canada. Married Jim Polk.
1969 - She worked as a teacher at the York University in Toronto, Canada.
1971-1972 - She was the Berg professor of English at the New York University and the author f the seminal Survival: A Thematic Guide to Canadian Literature.
1973 - Married Graeme Gibson, a novelist.
1974 - Wrote the script for the television show The Servant Girl.
1977 - Wrote the script for the television show Days of the Rebels.
1984-1986 - Became the vice-chairman of the Writers' Union of Canada and president of International PEN.
1987 - She was elected as Senior Fellow of Massey College at the University of Toronto.
1996 - She won the 1996 Giller Prize and finalist for the 1996 Governor General's Award for her novel Alias Grace.
2000 - Won the 2000 Booker Prize and a finalist for the 2000 Governor General's Award for her novel The Blind Assassin.
2001 - She was inducted into Canada's Walk of Fame.
2003 - Her novel entitled Oryx and Castle was a finalist for the 2003 Governor General's Award.
2006 - Published her collection of connected short stories, Moral Disorder.
