1795 - Born on June 13th in East Cowes, Isle of Wight, England. An English educator who, as headmaster of Rugby School, had much influence on public school education in England. He was the father of the poet and critic Matthew Arnold.
1815 - He was elected a fellow of Oriel College, Oxford.
1828 - Became the head of Rugby School.
1841 - He was the Regius Professor of Modern History at Oxford.
1842 - Died on June 12th in Rugby, Warwickshire.
1844 - His autobiography was written by his former student, Arthur Penrhyn Stanley, entitled Life.
