1910 - Born on December 19th in Paris, France. French writer, a dramatist and convicted felon, became one of the leading figures in the avant-garde theater.
1920 - At the age of 10 he was accused of stealing. During adolescence he spent five years at the Mettray Reformatory.
1929 - At age 19 joined the French Foreign Legion.
1939-1948 - Genet started to write. He produced several autobiographical novels, in which he depicted the rejection of the bourgeois society that had repudiated him.
- Genet was convicted of burglary for the 10th time and condemned to automatic life imprisonment.
1949 - Author of the books: Miracle dela rose, Pompes funebres, Querelle de Brest and Journal du voleur.
- Genet's autobiography, The Thief's Journal, appeared.
1961 - Wrote the plays: Les Bonnes, Haute Surveillance, Le Balcon, Les Negres and Les Paravents.
1986 - Died from throat cancer on April 15th in Paris, France.
