1928 - Marguerite Johnson was born 4th of April in St. Louis, Missouri.

 

1969 - Worked for her autobiographical writings I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings.

 

1971 - Nominated for the Pulitzer Prize for he work Just Give Me a Cool Drink of Water 'Fore I Die.

 

       - Wrote the screenplay and score for the film Georgia, Georgia the screenplay was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize.

 

1973 - Nominated for a Tony Award for Look Away.

 

1976 - Directed an episode of the award-winning television anthology series, "Visions."

 

1981 - Appointed to a lifetime position as the first Reynolds Professor of American Studies at Wake Forest University.

 

1986 - Wrote the All God's Children Need Traveling Shoes.

 

1993 - Became only the second poet in U.S. History to have the honor of writing and reciting original work at the Presidential Inauguration.

 

         - Angelou recieved Grammy Award for Best Spoken Word Album for On the Pulse of Morning.

 

1994 - She received the Spingarn Medal.

 

1995 - Starred in movie "How to Make an American Quilt" as Anna.

 

1998 - Directed the feature film, Down in the Delta, starring Alfre Woodard.

 

2005 - Honored by Oprah Winfrey at her Legends Ball along with 25 other African-American.

 

2006 - Appeared in Tyler Perry's "Madea's Family Reunion".
